But a human being is far more contradictory and changeable than a single label allows.<\/p>\n<p>Someone can be highly intelligent and foolish in certain situations, kind and sometimes unkind, confident and insecure, brave and frightened \u2014 depending on the circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>That is why even the sentence:<br \/>\n<em>\u201cThat is just what this person is like.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\ncan be problematic.<\/p>\n<p>Compare it with:<br \/>\n<em>\u201cThis is how they behaved in this particular situation.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The first sentence reduces a person to a characteristic.
